Batak municipality is located in the western parts of the Rhodopi mountain in the valley of Stara reka river.
Pazardjik and Plovdiv are the nearest cities. Trakia highway connects Sofia with Pazardjik and asphalt-covered roads lead to Batak, located 1036 m above sea level.
Batak has a long history dating back to ancient times. These lands have preserved the heritage of Thracians, Romans, Slavs.
At the time of the Ottoman Empire Batak attracted many rebels who settled here in order to preserve their Christian faith. This led to material and spiritual development of the village. During the April Uprising in 1876, provoked by the will of people to be free, thousands died and the town was burned down. Gathered in St. Nedelya Church, people defended fearlessly their faith for three days and nights and all of them died after the church was burned. Except for the above mentioned church other places of interest are the reserves "Batak", "Beglika", "The Hole" and the artificial dam lakes "Batak", "Beglika", "Goliam Beglik" and "Shiroka polyana".
